These Springtime fun treat holders are perfect for Easter or to welcome in a fresh, new spring season. Change up the colors or Designer Series Paper (DSP) and they could be used for anytime, any occasion or season. Add a little treat and surprise a friend or loved one!
Simple and Fun in Many Shapes and Sizes
You will see several different designs featured here, and in some cases, some different sizes of the same project. This way you can choose what works best for the treats you want to give to your special someone. Of course, choose your own colors and DSP to suit your theme. A video tutorial is coming soon to show you how to put these all together. For now, here are some details about the project and materials.
Super Easy Basket – Three Sizes
Creating these baskets is so very easy! Then you can decide how creative you want to get in decorating them. You can see in the photos above, the bunny on the small Petal Pink basket involves a bit more work using the Double Oval Punch, a few circle punches or dies, ribbon and some embossing with the Subtles Embossing Folder. (Googly eyes are non-Stampin’ Up!)
The medium sized Balmy Blue basket boasts some pretty True Love Designer Series Paper from the Love You Always Suite in the 2021 January – June Mini Catalog (pg. 11). Of course any color and coordinating DSP will do the trick!
The large basket was originally made as a trial with retired Lemon-Lime Twist cardstock. (Although the lighting in the photo makes it look more yellow, it really is a light green!) Kept it basic for demonstration purposes and just added the Daisy Punch (the larger one) for a little focal point. Although it is kind of plain, I rather like it! It has a fresh, clean look, like spring. I’m sure whatever I choose to put in there will be colorful enough.
Each basket begins with a square piece of cardstock, scored in thirds, rotated and scored again in thirds. This will create nine equal squares. Add a handle at one inch wide and a desired length and you’ve got the basic basket! If you use DSP, just cut four squares to a size that is 1/4″ smaller than the scored squares on your cardstock. Measurements for each are here:
Small: 4-1/2″ square, scored at 1-1/2″ and 3″ both directions (DSP 1-1/4″ square)
Medium: 6″ square, scored at 2″ and 4″ both directions. (DSP 1-3/4″ square)
Large: 8-1/4″ square, scored at 2-3/4″ and 5-1/2″ both directions (DSP 2-1/2″ square)
Some Additional Notes
By the way, did you notice that the bunny basket and the yellow basket have pointy tops to the sides? And the green and blue baskets have rounded ones? You can use the corner rounder part of the Detailed Trio Punch to give it a smoother look if you prefer. Don’t forget to also use the corner rounder on your DSP so that it matches!
In addition, be aware of the pattern on your DSP. If it is a totally random pattern, no worries! If it has a definite top and bottom, be sure to place it on your cardstock accordingly.
Lastly, you may choose to add a strip of matching or coordinating DSP to your handle for a little more finished look as on the blue basket. Cut it at either 3/4″ or 1/2″ wide depending on the look you want.
Chocolate Egg Holder
Who wants their chocolate eggs rolling all around the container? These fun treat holders will hold the eggs right in place as if on a throne as it is presented to the recipient! This clever little design was inspired by Julie DiMatteo. Surprisingly, very little paper is needed for these boxes. You might even be able to use up some of your DSP scraps! The finished box base will measure 2″ square when you are done. Materials are listed below:
- Cardstock: 3-1/2″ x 6″
- Hold this piece vertically and score at 3/4″ and 2-3/4″
- Turn it horizontally and score at 3/4″, 2-3/4″, 3-1/2″ and 5-1/2″
- Keeping the cardstock in this horizontal orientation, with the 3/4″ score on the left, die cut a circle out of the center of the first large square area on your left (Use the 2nd smallest circle of the Layering Circles Dies (approximately 1-3/8″ diameter)
- Burnish all score lines
- DSP: Four pieces @ 2″ x 3″, use Scalloped Tag Topper Punch on the 2″ side of each (or Fancy Tag Topper, or Delightful Tag Topper)
- Ribbon: 12″ piece

Mini Double Sided Tote
Large measures 2-1/2″ wide x 1-1/2″ deep x 3-1/4″ tall
These adorable little “totes” are reminiscent of a tool box with a compartment on either side and a handle in the middle. Fill with small chocolates, other candy, or maybe even tea bags! A small piece of jewelry or a gift card! Get creative with your fun treat holders! See materials below:
Small Tote
- Cardstock: 2-1/4″ x 8-1/2″
- Hold cardstock vertically and score at 1/2″ and 1-3/4″ (or think of it as 1/2″ on each side)
- Rotate cardstock to horizontal orientation and score at 1-1/4″, 1-3/4″, 4-1/4″, 6-3/4″ and 7-1/4″
- Keep cardstock in this orientation and go back to score again at 3″ and 5-1/2″ BUT ONLY DOWN TO THE 1/2″ SCORE LINE (See diagram below)
- Rotate the cardstock 180 degrees and the same to the other side
- Follow diagram below to cut and trim tabs
- DSP: two pieces at 1-1/8″ square and two pieces at 7/8″ x 1-1/2″
- You will also need a 3/4″ circle punch
- Other punches, ribbon and/or embellishments optional

Large Tote
- Cardstock: 4″ x 11″
- Hold cardstock vertically and score at 3/4″ and 3-1/4″ (or think of it as 3/4″ on each side)
- Rotate cardstock to horizontal orientation and score at 1-1/2″, 2-1/4″, 5-1/2″, 8-3/4″ and 9-1/2″
- Keep cardstock in this orientation and go back to score again at 3-3/4″ and 7-1/4″ BUT ONLY DOWN TO THE 1/2″ SCORE LINE (Similar to diagram above for small tote.)
- Rotate the cardstock 180 degrees and the same to the other side
- Follow diagram above to cut and trim tabs
- DSP: two pieces at 1-1/4″ square and two pieces at 2-1/4 x 1-1/4″
- You will also need a 3/4″ circle punch
- Other punches, ribbon and/or embellishments optional
