Use Your Stylus Tool To Emboss Vellum
I really love this technique! Use your stylus tool on the back of a piece of stamped or heat-embossed vellum for added highlights and dimension to your image.
Stamp the image with ink, or emboss with VersaMark Ink and embossing powder.
Working on a foam mat, turn your vellum to the back side with the image down. With the blunt end of your stylus tool, gently rub within the lines of your image as if you were coloring it. Don’t press too hard. You don’t want to poke through the vellum. Keep checking the front to see if you are satisfied with the look, and go back to do more if needed.
Notice in the photo how the embossed top flowers now look milky white compared to the others. This more opaque look will make the image stand out more color-wise. It also has a raised, almost puffy look to it which adds interesting dimension. (It is hard to capture that on the photo.)
Remember that glue and other adhesives will show through the vellum, so you have to be mindful of how you attach it to your project. One option is to sponge small amounts of glue under the more opaque or solid parts of the image.
Here, the the top and bottom ends of the vellum are folded and wrapped around the Night of Navy and Seaside Spray layers and glued in the back.
Tying a ribbon, twine or cord around a top layer of your card is another option, as seen in the examples below. (Gold cord was retired from Stampin’ Up! many years ago!)
